Magnificent 15th Century Northern Thai Bronze Buddha in Royal Attire, Large Period Example of Exceptional Presence. This magnificent 15th-century Northern Thai bronze Buddha, depicted in royal attire, is a commanding and exceptionally fine example of early Thai sculpture. While I initially described it as “15th Century style,” closer study—and extended examination of its casting, patina, and proportions—strongly supports that it is in fact a true period piece, not a later revival work.

The Buddha’s significant size, beautifully modeled face, and classic early proportions give the figure an extraordinary presence. The expression is serene and dignified, and the royal vestments are rendered with remarkable clarity and elegance. It has long held a place of honor in my living room, where its spiritual warmth and authoritative stillness dominate the space. The sculpture measures 20.25 inches high, 13.25 inches wide, and 7.25 inches deep (knees measuring 9 inches across), and weighs 12.27 lbs (5.565 kg)—a substantial weight that underscores its authenticity and quality. The bronze has a rich, even surface that reflects centuries of careful preservation.

A formidable focal point, museum-worthy in scale and execution, and one of the most impressive Northern Thai royal-attire Buddhas I have owned.
