Pagan-Period Buddha in Folk Style, Long-Held Personal Collection Piece. This charming Pagan-period Buddha, rendered in a distinctive folk style, is a rare and character-filled example of early Burmese devotional sculpture. The figure would originally have had a separately cast base, either for a single Buddha or as part of a trilogy grouping. Its style shows affinities with works from Arakan, and while it may date to the Pagan era, it is also possible that it was made a few centuries later, as this type continued to be produced in Burma well into modern times.

The Buddha has been a long-time personal favorite, residing in my private collection for over 30 years and only recently made available for sale. Its warmth, individuality, and quiet spiritual presence have always set it apart. The sculpture itself measures 9.625 inches high, 6.625 inches wide, and 3.5 inches deep, weighing 6.03 lbs (2.735 kg). It sits on a custom base crafted by a skilled metal sculptor; the base weighs 4.76 lbs (2.160 kg) and measures 1.875 inches in height.

A wonderfully expressive and deeply personal piece—full of history, charm, and the timeless simplicity of Burmese folk Buddhist art.
